A body found in Cherkasy region is believed to be that of Serhii Hulyi from Zolotonosha. He disappeared after he was taken to a TCC, found fit for military service despite epilepsy, and assigned to the air assault troops. The military unit did not accept him, and he disappeared on the way back. A DNA test of the body is underway.
Timeline
- 10.08.2026 — According to Military Law Enforcement Service documents cited by MP Oleksii Honcharenko, Serhii Hulyi was delivered to a TCC. Cherkasy region police said that 40-year-old Serhii Hulii left his home in Zolotonosha that day and did not return. The police notice spells the surname Hulii.
- A military medical commission found him fit for service despite epilepsy and assigned him to the air assault troops. The unit did not accept him. He was then supposed to be returned home to Zolotonosha.
- Honcharenko said that on the way Hulyi ended up in the village of Shevchenkove, Zvenyhorod district, about 140 kilometres from home. On the TCC account relayed by Honcharenko, he allegedly asked to be dropped off earlier and walked off in an unknown direction. Serhii Hulyi has not been seen since.
- Honcharenko, quoted by Kraina, said the man was taken to Zvenyhorodka and spent three days there. Over that time he was offered to various units, and all of them refused. A serviceman was then told to drive him to Shevchenkove. "They drop him off at 7 in the evening without a shirt, without a phone, without money. Nobody has seen him since, and now there is a body found in a field," the MP said.
- 22.08.2026 — Cherkasy police published a missing-person notice for 40-year-old Serhii Hulii. The police notice and the Suspilne report describe a disappearance, not a body.
- 20.10.2026 — Kraina published the MP's account: the body found in a field is being examined, the investigation is to determine whether it is Serhii Hulyi's and what the cause of death was, and a DNA test is underway.
- 21.10.2026 — Pro Vse and Dzvin reported that a body believed to be that of a man who disappeared after a trip with the TCC had been found in Cherkasy region, and that the DNA test continues.
