Andrii Stesiuk, a 46-year-old resident of Ovruch, died on 6 August 2026 at the Korosten district TCC and SP during medical examination procedures.

  • 06.08.2026, morning — in the town of Ovruch, a notification team stopped 46-year-old Andrii Stesiuk to verify military registration credentials. According to the TCC, he was listed as wanted for military registration violations.
  • The man was transferred to the Korosten District TCC and SP to undergo military medical examination (VLK).
  • 06.08.2026 — after the medical exam he was found fit for support units. At a 15 September parliamentary hearing the time of collapse was given as 14:38. His mother says the TCC told the parents he lost consciousness in a toilet, and she found the body on a cloth in the yard.
  • TCC staff called emergency medical responders. Resuscitation efforts by the ambulance crew were unsuccessful, and death was certified at the scene.

Official TCC and Police Position

The Zhytomyr Regional TCC and SP stated that the individual was eligible for mobilization and that he experienced sudden cardiac arrest during medical evaluation. Officials stressed that no physical coercion was applied, and forensic examiners reported no visible indications of violent trauma. Preliminary autopsy results indicated acute heart failure and myocardial infarction as the cause of death.

Mother's Statement (Tamara Stesiuk)

The victim's mother publicly contested the official narrative, stating that her son suffered from severe chronic illnesses for roughly 19 years (including ulcerative colitis and a mental disorder), had held official Group II disability status for a decade, and weighed approximately 200 kilograms. She said local TCC staff knew he was ill, but around 07:30 a team from Korosten forced him into a car as he walked to a shop without documents or a phone. They did not let the family hand over medical papers, medicine, or water. After a call from the Korosten TCC she found him lifeless in the yard: "My son is lying in the middle of the yard with his arms spread, his head already blue." She filed complaints with police and rights bodies.

Investigation

Serhii Kaverdun, director of the Korosten central city hospital, said Stesiuk had grade III obesity and was taken away in a normal condition after the exam. Commission chair Oleksii Honcharenko said the doctor who signed the fitness conclusion did not attend because he was on sick leave. The commission said a causal link between the VLK decision and the death had not been established.
