Dmytro Sysoniuk, a 43-year-old pediatric anesthesiologist from Rivne, died on 5 August 2026 after falling from a training center window in Vinnytsia region.

Biography and Mobilization Background

Dmytro Sysoniuk was born on 11 June 1983 in Rivne. He was a pediatric anesthesiologist in the intensive care department of the Rivne Regional Children's Hospital.

On 24 July 2026 the hospital lost its critical-enterprise status and his reservation lapsed. In that interval a notification team of the Rivne TCC stopped him on the street. On 27 July he passed the VLK at the fourth department of the Rivne TCC, was found fit for support units, and was sent to a training center in Vinnytsia region. He was given the rank of junior lieutenant.

Timeline

  • 27.07.2026 — medical examination in Rivne and transfer to a training unit in Vinnytsia region.
  • 01.08.2026, 21:07 — police received the call. Rivne Media, citing police, reported that Sysoniuk fell from a fifth-floor toilet window at the training center and sustained critical injuries. There was no suicide note.
  • He was taken to intensive care at the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Central Region in Vinnytsia.
  • 05.08.2026 — the doctor died in hospital. The body was sent to the Vinnytsia regional forensic bureau.
  • 09.08.2026 — the farewell was at the Holy Intercession Cathedral in Rivne. He was buried at the Nove cemetery. He is survived by his mother, brother, wife, and daughter.

Investigation and Institutional Responses

  • Vinnytsia Regional Police: opened criminal proceedings under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("premeditated murder") marked as an accident. Spokeswoman Zarina Maievska told ZAXID.NET that Sysoniuk was still conscious and said there had been no struggle or outside interference before the fall.
  • Family: at the farewell, relative Antonina told Suspilne the family does not believe he fell from the fifth floor. "Why would a doctor fall from the fifth floor? None of us believes it."
  • Medical Forces Command of the AFU: stated in response to media inquiries that during his hospitalization from 1 to 5 August, the patient lodged no complaints alleging violence, abuse, or hazing.
  • Rivne TCC and SP: asserted that mobilization was conducted lawfully because at the moment of conscription, the hospital's critical status had lapsed and the deferment was inactive.
  • Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights: Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets placed the investigation under personal monitoring. His office petitioned the Prosecutor General's Office to review potential abuse of authority by military officers under Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
