Chronology

  • 21.10.2024 - a 48-year-old man was brought by police to the preliminary assembly point for reservists in Poltava district. He had been wanted.
  • 21.10.2024 - he refused to undergo the military medical board. A refusal report was drawn up, and a notice to police under Article 336 of the Criminal Code (draft evasion) was being prepared.
  • 21.10.2024 - technical staff found him hanged in the toilet of the preliminary assembly point.

Circumstances of the incident

The reservist was brought to the assembly point by police because he was wanted. He refused the medical board. Soon after the refusal report was prepared, he was found hanged.

Previous conviction: he had earlier been convicted of draft evasion and sentenced to 3 years in prison with a 1-year probation term, which expired in September 2024.

TCC version

The Poltava regional TCC said:

  • the forcibly delivered reservist took his own life;
  • according to the TCC, no signs of violence were found;
  • no pressure had been exerted on him.

Investigation status

  • Police in Poltava region, according to spokesperson Yurii Sulaiev, opened proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code (intentional murder), meaning the suicide version was not accepted as final.
  • The body was sent for forensic examination.
  • The incident happened in the Shcherbani community.
