Chronology

  • 28.08.2024 - 53-year-old Serhii Kanalosh from Svaliava was taken to the TCC. According to his family, he left home without injuries or bruises.
  • 01.09.2024 - during a short meeting, his wife Olha Kanalosh saw signs of a beating: he was limping and had a broken nose and a bruise under his right eye. Later that day, he became seriously ill during transport.
  • 01.09.2024, 22:00 - Serhii was hospitalized in Svaliava city hospital unconscious. Diagnosis: intracranial hemorrhage. After surgery in Uzhhorod to remove the hematoma, his condition did not improve.
  • 04.09.2024 - Serhii Kanalosh died.
  • 05.09.2024 - ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said the deceased man's daughter had reported his unlawful detention and beating.

Circumstances of the incident

His family says Serhii was beaten at the TCC. According to his wife, he had a military ID stating that he was unfit for service, but after his death the document disappeared.

TCC version

  • He was brought to the TCC after a domestic incident.
  • After the medical board, he was sent toward a training center.
  • His condition worsened sharply during transport.
  • Officials said he died from an ischemic infarction of the left cerebral hemisphere and denied any link to traumatic events.

Investigation status

  • After the daughter's complaint, Dmytro Lubinets sent a request to the Prosecutor General.
  • Information about possible grievous bodily harm was entered into the register under Part 1 of Article 128 of the Criminal Code.
