Biography

Oleh Kravchenko, 54 years old (born 1970), lived in Poltava. According to his relatives, he had a psychiatric diagnosis described as "manic psychosis," and for that reason they believe he was unfit for service. He was mobilized in July 2024. Over seven months he served in three military units. He was a radio telephone operator. The medical board classified him as fit with restrictions.

Chronology

  • July 2024 - he was mobilized by the Poltava TCC. The medical board declared him fit with restrictions.
  • 01.02.2025 - he was serving in Chernihiv region.
  • 11.02.2025 - he went to the unit's medical point complaining of swelling in his leg. Diagnosis: phlebothrombosis of the left lower limb. He was hospitalized in the Nizhyn Central City Hospital named after Mykola Halytskyi.
  • 25.02.2025 - he was discharged with instructions to continue treatment in a military hospital. On the same day he left for the unit with a fellow serviceman in private transport.
  • 26.02.2025 - he was brought in critical condition to the First City Hospital of Poltava and died there.

Family's version

His mother and sister state that:

  • Oleh had a psychiatric diagnosis that made him unfit for service;
  • he was mobilized without a proper medical examination;
  • he suffered a severe beating in the military unit: his spleen and kidneys were damaged and his teeth were knocked out;
  • after the beating he remained in hospital in Chernihiv region and was discharged in poor condition.

Operational Command "North" version

  • Kravchenko went through the medical board and was declared fit with restrictions.
  • He served in support units according to that status.
  • He reported leg swelling and was diagnosed with phlebothrombosis.
  • He was hospitalized and later discharged with recommendations.
  • He died on 26 February in a Poltava hospital.

TCC version

The Poltava regional TCC said:

  • he had passed the medical board and was declared fit with restrictions;
  • no appeals against the board's decision had been filed.

Additional details

According to his autobiography, he had used narcotic substances since the age of 25. On 22 February 2025, the unit received a letter from the Podil district probation office in Poltava region.

Investigation status

Law enforcement opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional grievous bodily harm resulting in death).
