Chronology

  • 07.05.2025 - the man was detained on the street by police and TCC personnel for violating military registration rules and being listed as wanted.
  • 07.05.2025 - he passed the medical board, was declared fit, and was taken to the Kyiv city TCC assembly point in Darnytskyi district.
  • 08.05.2025 - he was sent to one of the training centers. The training center refused to process him, because it turned out he had alcohol dependence, a hip injury, and varicose veins.
  • 08.05.2025, during transport back - the man refused to obey an order to calm down. After that, a serviceman from the assembly point's guard platoon:
    • struck him in the face at least three times;
    • after he fell, used a stun device on him 3 to 4 times;
    • grabbed him by the head and started smashing it against the floor;
    • kicked him in the head;
    • jumped on his chest with his feet;
    • continued the beating for almost the entire trip back to Kyiv;
    • while officers present on the bus did nothing.
  • 08.05.2025, upon arrival - the serviceman dragged the man out of the bus by the legs and threw him onto the assembly ground.
  • 08.05.2025 - medics could only pronounce him dead.

Forensic examination

Cause of death: combined head and chest trauma, rib fractures, and damage to internal organs.

Investigation status

  • The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv kept in custody the serviceman from the assembly point's guard platoon.
  • The suspicion concerns abuse of official authority with violence resulting in death.
  • 23.04.2026 - the State Bureau of Investigation and the Central Region specialized defense prosecutor's office reported that an indictment had been sent to court against a soldier of the Shevchenkivskyi district TCC and SP in Kyiv and the deputy head of the Podilskyi district TCC and SP.
  • According to prosecutors, the soldier faces up to 12 years in prison, while the deputy head of the district TCC faces up to 10 years.

Systemic nature of the case

According to case materials, the medical board declared "fit" a man with alcohol dependence, a hip injury, and varicose veins, after which the training center refused to accept him. According to investigators, he was beaten to death on the way back while officers failed to intervene.
