Chronology

  • ~16.10.2024 - he was detained in Novoiavorivsk and taken to a military unit in Lviv, the training center of the Military Law Enforcement Service.
  • 17.10.2024 - he called his parents and said that he and about 20 other men were being taken to Rivne.
  • 18.10.2024 - his conversation with relatives was "somewhat strange" but still did not raise suspicions.
  • 19.10.2024, morning - he was already speaking in a delirious state, with incoherent speech detached from reality. After 15:00 the contact stopped.
  • 19.10.2024 - he committed a second unauthorized absence from the unit; the first had already happened in Lviv. From that day he remained outside the unit.
  • 20.10.2024 - he did not make contact.
  • 21.10.2024 - his parents went to military unit A7019, where they were told their son was not there, that he had either "been transferred or run away."
  • 22.10.2024 - he was admitted to the emergency department of the Rivne narcological dispensary and then transferred to the Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital named after Yurii Semeniuk, to intensive care. He died at 18:00.
  • 23.10.2024 - his parents were called by the hospital and informed of his death. A forensic examination was conducted in Rivne the same day.

Circumstances of the incident

Yuriy Protsyk was mobilized and died in a Rivne hospital a week later. During that time he twice left the unit without authorization. In his last days he behaved abnormally, with delirium and incoherent speech.

Family's version

Relative Mariia Protsyk states that:

  • the forensic examination did not record beatings, but the family saw a scar on his head, a split lip, blue hands, and marks on his body;
  • the family suspects he was beaten;
  • they demand a repeat forensic examination.

Operational Command "West" version

  • Protsyk committed unauthorized absence twice.
  • From 19 October he remained outside the unit until his death on 22 October.
  • A repeat forensic examination will likely be ordered.

Investigation status

Police in Rivne region are investigating the circumstances of his death.
