Sopin Roman
Biography
Roman Sopin, 43, was the son of theater actors Oleh and Larysa Sopin from the BEAT theater.
Chronology
- 18.10.2025 - Roman Sopin wrote to his brother Rostyslav on Viber that he had been detained and taken to the TCC.
- 19.10.2025 - he was included in a transfer group bound for the 71st Separate Jaeger Brigade of the Air Assault Forces. The same day he was taken to hospital with a traumatic brain injury and underwent urgent trepanation.
- 19-23.10.2025 - he remained in a coma for several days.
- 23.10.2025 - Roman Sopin died in hospital.
Circumstances of the incident
Roman Sopin was mobilized on 18 October. The next day he was taken to hospital with a severe traumatic brain injury from the premises at 13 Ivana Vyhovskoho Street, the assembly point of the Podil TCC in Kyiv.
According to witnesses, some kind of conflict preceded the incident, and money was allegedly demanded from Roman.
Family's version
His parents saw Roman in torn clothes and with bruises. They believe he was beaten after mobilization. Roman had no illnesses.
His parents filed a complaint with the SBI under articles concerning:
- intentional bodily injury;
- unlawful deprivation of liberty;
- negligent military service.
TCC version
The TCC stated: "There was no violence. The man lost consciousness, fell, and hit his head on the hard floor in front of many witnesses, after which he was hospitalized."
The TCC called reports of a beating "manipulative and false."
Forensic examination
According to the forensic findings, the cause of death was a closed traumatic brain injury inflicted by a blunt object. Fractures of the cranial vault and base were recorded, as well as hemorrhages under the membranes and in brain tissue.
At the same time, it was noted that "final conclusions require the results of histological examinations."
Investigation status
- Kyiv police opened criminal proceedings under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional murder).
- Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko placed the case under his personal control.
- Police seized surveillance footage from the premises of the Podil TCC.
- Radio Svoboda conducted a separate investigation.
