Chronology

  • 24.02.2026 - Vasyl Tsiurko was taken in Yaremche. According to his sister, he had neither documents nor a phone with him; the next day the family found him at the TCC in Nadvirna.
  • Several days later, the family learned that Vasyl was serving in the Skelia regiment in Dnipro.
  • 04.03.2026 - according to the Halych community, soldier Vasyl Tsiurko died in a medical facility.
  • 10.03.2026 - the family received news of his death, after an unknown person had answered his phone on 8 March and said Tsiurko would still be "in the punishment cell."

Circumstances of the incident

The medical death certificate listed acute cardiovascular failure and atherosclerotic heart disease as causes of death. Suspilne reported that the forensic expert also documented fatty liver disease, rib fractures, bruises, abrasions, and contused wounds.

His sister Tetiana Stefaniuk said the body was in terrible condition and that the family had appealed to the State Bureau of Investigation, ombudsmen, and police. Dnipropetrovsk regional police told Suspilne that the Synelnykove district police department was investigating the death as intentional murder under Article 115 part 1 of the Criminal Code.

Investigation status

There is a criminal proceeding under the murder article. The Dnipropetrovsk specialized defense prosecutor's office confirmed procedural supervision but did not provide details.
