Chronology

  • 02.02.2026, ~09:30 - a notification group together with a police officer stopped Ivan Volovetskyi to check his military registration documents. According to the TCC, he was intoxicated, had no documents with him, and was listed as wanted for violating military registration rules.
  • 02.02.2026, ~10:00 - a police officer took him to the Yavoriv RTC and SP building. He was placed in a rest room while his details were being clarified.
  • 02.02.2026, ~13:42 - other conscripts in the rest room informed the duty officer that Volovetskyi was feeling unwell.
  • 02.02.2026, ~13:43 - an ambulance was called.
  • 02.02.2026, ~13:48 - doctors recorded his death. According to them, there were no signs of physical violence.

Circumstances of the incident

On 2 February 2026, 48-year-old Ivan Ostapovych Volovetskyi died inside the Yavoriv RTC and SP building in Lviv region. About 4 hours passed between his detention (09:30) and his death (13:48), all while he was under TCC control.

Family's version

The victim's wife, Tetiana Volovetska, published a public statement saying:

"During the day, while under the control of TCC representatives, he died. A person lost his life under unclear circumstances in a state institution."

Tetiana demands:

  • An investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation and the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office
  • An independent forensic medical examination to establish the exact cause of death

TCC version

The Lviv regional TCC and SP stated that, according to doctors, the cause of death was alcohol poisoning. In its version, no signs of physical violence were found on the body.

Investigation status

The wife appealed to the State Bureau of Investigation demanding an inquiry. At the time of the media reports, there was no confirmed information about a criminal case being opened.
